Nelson's steep streets
Nelson's hillside neighbourhoods are among the steepest in the region. Walls, stairs and careful drainage are often the difference between a usable yard and a wet slope.
Many Nelson homes are well over a hundred years old, so foundations, old drainage and aging service lines are a regular part of the work.
Narrow lanes and tight access mean we size the machine to the street, and sometimes dig by hand near old foundations.
Permits in Nelson
The City of Nelson issues its own building permits: decks need one, and retaining walls over 1.2 m (4 ft) do too. Some neighbourhoods also have heritage guidelines, so we check before we design.
