Decks and stairs built for Kootenay winters

A deck here has to carry heavy snow, sit on sloped ground and survive freeze and thaw. We plan for all three from the footings up.

Deck work we take on

Planning your deck

Most local towns ask for a building permit for a new deck, and in rural Central Kootenay areas it applies once a deck is more than 2 ft (0.6 m) above the ground. We'll tell you what your address needs before we start.

Snow load matters for framing. Rossland and higher neighbourhoods get far more snow than the valley floor, and the joists and beams have to be sized for it.

Choose materials for upkeep, not just looks. Pressure-treated wood costs less up front; composite boards cost more but need little care. We'll price both if you're unsure.
